Carnal Agony: Demo 2012
02/11/12 || jaimeviejo
I don’t usually bash bands, especially if it is their first demo. I know first hand how hard but how rewarding it is for musicians to record some songs, but let me tell you something, if you release something is because you want people to hear it, and believe me, you don’t want people to hear this…what’s the point? I mean, the vocals are horrid, weak and just plain bad, the programmed drums are unlistenable, fake and simplistic; the only good point about the demo are the guitars but they are every now and then out of tune!. There are some decent melodies and riffs here and there but are ruined by a lack of tight/solid musicianship. Bass appears from time to time but you can’t really tell what is doing. The whole demo is just uninspired, plain and empty.
Just listen to the demo “Open The Crypt” (2009) from the Finnish band Krypts, Stench Of Decay’s “Where Death and Decay Reign” or even those crazy demos from the doomsters Swallowed.
I’m not saying that those are milestones of music but they are powerful, have identity and are fun to listen to. Nowadays with all the technology available you don’t need to call Dan Swanö to produce your demos, but you need to spend some time working on your ideas and tweaking some buttons. Carnal’s Agony demo could be excused only if they were 15 year olds.
3/10: Don’t get discouraged, next time it will be better.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
